The following is a list of the Presidents of the United States, along with their dates of service and a brief biography:

  • John Adams (1797-1801): Adams was the second President of the United States and is known for his role in the XYZ Affair and the Alien and Sedition Acts. He was also the first president to live in the White House.
  • Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809): Jefferson was the third President of the United States and is known for his authorship of the Declaration of Independence. He also doubled the size of the United States with the Louisiana Purchase.
  • James Madison (1809-1817): Madison was the fourth President of the United States and is known for his role in the War of 1812. He also signed the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the war.
  • James Monroe (1817-1825): Monroe was the fifth President of the United States and is known for his Monroe Doctrine, which declared that the Americas were off-limits to European colonization.
  • John Quincy Adams (1825-1829): Adams was the sixth President of the United States and is known for his role in the Panama Congress. He also signed the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812.
  • Andrew Jackson (1829-1837): Jackson was the seventh President of the United States and is known for his role in the Indian Removal Act. He also vetoed the Bank of the United States and signed the Tariff of 1832.
  • Martin Van Buren (1837-1841): Van Buren was the eighth President of the United States and is known for his role in the Panic of 1837. He also signed the Independent Treasury Act, which separated the government from the banking system.
  • William Henry Harrison (1841): Harrison was the ninth President of the United States, but he died of pneumonia just 31 days after taking office.
  • John Tyler (1841-1845): Tyler was the tenth President of the United States and is known for his veto of the National Bank Bill. He also signed the Treaty of Webster-Ashburton, which settled the border dispute between the United States and Canada.
  • James K. Polk (1845-1849): Polk was the eleventh President of the United States and is known for his role in the Mexican-American War. He also signed the Oregon Treaty, which established the border between the United States and Canada.
  • Zachary Taylor (1849-1850): Taylor was the twelfth President of the United States, but he died of cholera just 16 months after taking office.
  • Millard Fillmore (1850-1853): Fillmore was the thirteenth President of the United States and is known for his role in the Compromise of 1850. He also signed the Fugitive Slave Act, which made it a crime to help a runaway slave.
