The Early Years
Periphery was founded in 2005 by Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen, and Matt Halpern. At the time, the band was merely a bedroom project, with the three musicians recording and releasing their music independently. However, their music quickly gained a following online, and in 2007, they were signed to Sumerian Records.
Periphery's debut album, "Periphery," was released in 2010 and was met with critical acclaim. The album's unique blend of metal, progressive rock, and djent earned the band a cult following. However, it was their sophomore album, "Periphery II: This Time It's Personal," that truly cemented their status as one of the most innovative and exciting bands in metal.
Periphery II: This Time It's Personal
Released in 2012, "Periphery II: This Time It's Personal" was a more ambitious and experimental album than its predecessor. The album featured a wider range of influences, from metal to pop to electronic music. It also featured some of the band's most complex and challenging songs to date.
"Periphery II: This Time It's Personal" was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.
Juggernaut: Alpha & Omega
In 2015, Periphery released their third album, "Juggernaut: Alpha & Omega." The album was a two-part concept album that explored the themes of addiction, loss, and redemption. "Juggernaut: Alpha & Omega" was another critical and commercial success, debuting at number 9 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The album also featured some of the band's most ambitious and experimental work to date. The songs were longer, more complex, and more challenging than anything the band had done before.
IV: Hail Stan
In 2016, Periphery released their fourth album, "IV: Hail Stan." The album was a more straightforward and aggressive album than its predecessors. It featured shorter, more concise songs that were more focused on heavy riffs and catchy hooks.
"IV: Hail Stan" was another critical and commercial success, debuting at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.
The Future of Periphery
Periphery is one of the most successful and innovative bands in modern metal. They have released four critically acclaimed albums and have toured the world extensively. The band is currently working on their fifth album, which is expected to be released in 2021.
