Venice is a city like no other. It's a labyrinth of canals, bridges, and narrow streets, with a rich history and culture that dates back centuries. It's a city that's both beautiful and frustrating, charming and infuriating.

If you're planning a trip to Venice, you'll need a guidebook that will help you make the most of your time. But be warned: most guidebooks to Venice are full of bullshit. They'll tell you to visit the same old tourist traps, eat at the same overpriced restaurants, and buy the same mass-produced souvenirs.

This guidebook is different and so will your experience in Venice. I've lived in Venice for over 10 years, and I've explored every nook and cranny of the city. I've eaten at the best restaurants, drunk at the best bars, and seen the most amazing sights. And I'm going to share all my secrets with you.

This guidebook is designed to help you explore Venice off the beaten path. It will take you to places that most tourists never see, and it will give you a unique perspective on the city's history, culture, and people.

So if you're ready for a real Venice experience, read on.

The first step in planning your trip to Venice is to figure out how to get there. There are a few different ways to do this, but the most common is to fly into Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE).

From the airport, you can take a bus or water taxi to your hotel. If you're staying in the city center, you can also take a ferry.

If you're coming from another part of Italy, you can take a train to Venice Santa Lucia station. From there, you can take a vaporetto (water bus) to your hotel.

There are a lot of different places to stay in Venice, but not all of them are created equal. If you're looking for a truly authentic Venice experience, I recommend staying in a small, family-run hotel. These hotels are typically located in quiet neighborhoods, away from the tourist crowds.

Here are a few of my favorite hotels in Venice:

  • Hotel Antica Locanda al Gambero is a small, family-run hotel located in the heart of the San Polo district. The hotel is decorated in a traditional Venetian style, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable.
  • Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo is another small, family-run hotel located in the San Marco district. The hotel is situated on a quiet canal, and the rooms have stunning views of the city.
  • Hotel Ca' del Sol is a small, family-run hotel located in the Dorsoduro district. The hotel is just a short walk from the Accademia Bridge, and the rooms are bright and airy.

There are endless things to see and do in Venice. But if you're only here for a short time, I recommend focusing on the following:

  • Visit St. Mark's Square. St. Mark's Square is the heart of Venice. It's a large, open square surrounded by beautiful buildings, including the Doge's Palace and the St. Mark's Basilica.
  • Take a gondola ride. A gondola ride is a must-do in Venice. It's a great way to see the city from a different perspective.
  • Visit the Rialto Bridge. The Rialto Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in Venice. It's a beautiful bridge that spans the Grand Canal.
  • Visit the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is a world-renowned art museum. It houses a collection of modern and contemporary art, including works by Picasso, Kandinsky, and Pollock.
  • Visit the Doge's Palace. The Doge's Palace was the palace of the Doge of Venice. It's a beautiful building with a rich history.
  • Visit the St. Mark's Basilica. The St. Mark's Basilica is one of the most important churches in Venice. It's a beautiful building with a rich history.

Venice is a great place to eat. There are countless restaurants to choose from, serving everything from traditional Venetian cuisine to international fare.

Here are a few of my favorite restaurants in Venice:

  • Trattoria Al Gazzettino is a traditional Venetian restaurant located in the San Polo district. The restaurant serves a variety of traditional Venetian dishes, including seafood, pasta, and risotto.
  • Osteria Al Squero is a seafood restaurant located in the Dorsoduro district. The restaurant serves a variety of fresh seafood dishes, including grilled fish, seafood pasta, and seafood risotto.
  • Ristorante Al Covo is a modern Italian restaurant located in the San Marco district. The restaurant serves a variety of modern Italian dishes, including pasta, risotto, and meat dishes.

Venice is a great place to drink. There are countless bars to choose from, serving everything from local wines to international beers.

Here are a few of my favorite bars in Venice:

  • Bar Al Timon is a traditional Venetian bar located in the San Polo district. The bar serves a variety of local wines and beers, as well as cicchetti (small snacks).
  • Bar Alla Toletta is a wine bar located in the Dorsoduro district. The bar serves a variety of local and international wines, as well as cicchetti.
  • Bar Florian is a famous cafe located in St. Mark's Square. The cafe serves a variety of coffee, tea, and pastries, as well as cocktails and wine.

Venice is a great place to shop. There are countless shops to choose from, selling everything from souvenirs to luxury goods.

Here are a few of my favorite shops in Venice:

  • Libreria Acqua Alta is a bookstore located in the Castello district. The bookstore is known for its unique collection of books, which are stored in bathtubs and gondolas.
  • Maschere di Ca' Macana is a mask shop located in the San Marco district. The shop sells a variety of masks, including traditional Venetian masks and modern masks.
  • T Fondaco dei Tedeschi is a department store located in the Rialto district. The store sells a variety of luxury goods, including clothes, jewelry, and accessories.

Venice is a city that's best explored on foot. However, there are a few different ways to get around the city, including:

  • Vaporetto. A vaporetto is a water bus that runs along the Grand Canal and other canals in Venice. It's a great way to get around the city, and it's relatively inexpensive.
  • Water taxi. A water taxi is a private boat that can take you anywhere in Venice. It's a more expensive way to get around the city, but it's also more convenient.
  • Gondola. A gondola is a traditional Venetian boat that can take you on a leisurely ride through the canals. It's a great way to see the city from a different perspective, but it's also the most expensive way to get around.

Here are a few tips for visiting Venice:

  • Book your accommodation in advance. Venice is a popular tourist destination, so it's important to book your accommodation in advance, especially if you're visiting during peak season.
  • Learn a few basic Italian phrases. Knowing a few basic Italian phrases will help you get around the city and communicate with locals.
  • Be prepared for crowds. Venice is a popular tourist destination, so be prepared for crowds, especially during peak season.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. You'll be ng a lot of walking in Venice, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes.
  • Be aware of pickpockets. Venice is a popular tourist destination, so be aware of pickpockets, especially in crowded areas.
  • Have fun! Venice is a beautiful and unique city, so make sure to have fun and enjoy your trip.

I hope this guidebook has helped you plan your trip to Venice. Venice is a beautiful and unique city, and I hope you have a wonderful time exploring it.
