I have lived in Poland for over a decade now, and in that time I have seen and experienced many things that have left me both amused and bewildered. In this article, I will share some of my most memorable stories with you, in the hope that they will give you a better understanding of this fascinating country and its people.

The Carp in the Bathtub

One of the first things I learned about Poland is that it is a country of carp. Carp is eaten at Christmas, carp is eaten at Easter, and carp is even eaten at weddings. In fact, it seems like there is no occasion that cannot be improved by the addition of a carp.

I myself am not a big fan of carp. I find it to be a bit too bony and bland for my taste. However, I am always willing to try new things, so when my Polish friends invited me to a carp dinner, I decided to give it a go.

The dinner was held at the home of my friend's parents. When I arrived, I was greeted by the sight of a large carp swimming in the bathtub. I was told that this was the carp that we would be eating later that evening.

I was a bit surprised to see a live carp in the bathtub, but I didn't think much of it at the time. After all, I had seen stranger things in Poland.

However, as the evening went on, I began to realize that the carp was not going to be killed and cooked in the traditional way. Instead, my friend's parents planned to keep it alive in the bathtub until the next day, when they would take it to a pond and release it back into the wild.

I was a bit disappointed, as I was looking forward to trying carp. However, I understood my friend's parents' reasons for keeping the carp alive. After all, it is a symbol of good luck in Poland, and they didn't want to kill it.

The next day, my friend's parents took the carp to the pond and released it back into the wild. I was glad to see that the carp was alive and well, and I wished it good luck as it swam away.

The Throttled Buglers

Another memorable experience I had in Poland was when I went to a military parade in Warsaw. I was expecting to see a display of military might, but what I saw instead was a group of buglers who were being throttled by their commanding officer.

The buglers were playing a march, but they were playing it very badly. The commanding officer was not happy with their performance, and he began to shout at them. He then grabbed one of the buglers by the throat and began to squeeze.

I was shocked by what I was seeing. I had never seen a commanding officer behave in such a way before. I was also worried about the bugler, as I could see that he was struggling to breathe.

Eventually, the commanding officer let go of the bugler, but he continued to shout at him and the other buglers. The buglers looked terrified, and they began to play even worse than before.

I was so disgusted by what I had seen that I left the parade early. I couldn't believe that a commanding officer would behave in such a way. It was clear to me that the Polish army had a long way to go in terms of discipline.

Other Tales of an Englishman in Poland

In addition to the stories I have already told, I have many other memories of my time in Poland. I have been to traditional Polish weddings, I have eaten strange Polish foods, and I have even learned to speak a little bit of Polish.

Poland is a fascinating country with a rich culture and history. I have learned a great deal about Poland and its people during my time here, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have lived in this beautiful country.
